Qualcomm on Monday announced its Toq smartwatch will be available on Dec. 2 for $350.
The Toq is compatible with Android-powered smartphones. Wearers can accept or reject phone calls and view text messages and other notifications via a Bluetooth connection.
It features Qualcomm’s WiPower LE technology for “drop and go” wireless charging. Perhaps of greatest interest, the Toq incorporates Qualcomm’s Mirasol display technology, which makes it easier to see in direct sunlight.
This Enderle guy is a joke. Mirasol functions nothing like transflective LCD displays. For one, it can appear brighter because it doesn't have to go through all layers necessary to drive LCDs. Also, his comment about it not being applicable toward larger devices is completely false. Qualcomm demoed a 5-inch smartphone concept around the same time they first announced the Toq smartwatch. And the "subdued" colors are only that way if you're relying purely on ambient lighting. However, if the device has front lighting like the Kindle Paperwhite, the Mirasol display will be as brilliant and probably even more rich than any LCD to date.
