I spoke last week with a woman who built a house in Belize. Apparently it was burglarized several times. After she moved away, her husband mysteriously died there — he had stayed to protect the house before they sold it. Then I got a visit from a friend who’d retired to Brazil but badly wants to come home. He recently had his gold chain ripped from his neck while he was on a private beach. I was thinking this was a Central/South American thing, largely because I was being told that U.S. citizens were being targeted.
"An arcology is a structure where you live and work. It is an extension of what already exists in most major companies, in that it adds living quarters on top of the extended food, store, cleaning and services these firms already provide on company property to keep employees productive and not distracted by personal business."
In the long-ago past, these were known as convents. Then they were known as plantations. Shortly afterward, they were known as company towns. Each instantiation got pretty bad reviews, ranging from sackings and riots all the way to a full-scale war. No thanks, I'll keep my work and my life separate, thank you very much. If you want to build your own little Matrix, go right ahead.
Your stories are anecdotal and your advice is poorly researched and inaccurate. Violent crime is going down in the United States. Arming someone with a poorly designed taser will give someone a false sense of security that may encourage them to take risks they should not. If violence is so severe, man-up and recommend getting training and carrying a gun. At a minimum a quality pepper spray that can give some range against an attacker. Belize is not the US and there is a huge difference between property crimes and violent crimes. You conflate everything here, make assertions that are verifiably false and promote a product that neither knowledgeable personal safety advocates nor law enforcement would recommend. In short, this article is simply an embarrassing scare piece used as product placement and filled with inaccuracies. Shame on you.
