Google has acquired Sparrow, the maker of an email client available for various platforms, including Apple’s iOS and Mac OS X. The news comes one week after Sparrow announced that its product is ready for Mac OS X Mountain Lion and for Apple’s Retina Display technology. Sure Google has engulfed another smaller start up in the email world. I don't think size of Sparrow as a company matters, only that they made a desktop app that worked well and with great design. However, I also disagree that this new Google/Sparrow acquisition will reduce the game players in desktop email development.
