Anyone in the technology industry not captivated by recent events in North Africa and the Middle East needs to consider a change in career. First in Tunisia and then in Egypt, Internet-connected mobile devices and social networking sites were reportedly leveraged by protesters to effectively exchange information with one another and offer insights regarding events in their countries to a spellbound world. It is no surprise that Egypt’s rulers decided to pursue the quick and dirty way of controlling disruptive information: strangling it at the source.
Regarding comments of the responding writer.......Pu-leese....you think the adminstration is trying to cut off the hateful conservative crap on FOX? That is NOT the theme of the piece. But the simple minded super conservative nuts are a problem just as what Charles King was talking about. China blocks the internet and cuts off the air waves. Freedom of speech and freedom of the public to gather and be heard has never been more evident than with this administration. If not for the US and it's internet fed information, we would all be in the dark. Bravo Charles.
Power corrupt governments will do almost anything to have a one voice country & it could even here. When a President elect "shouts out" at all that disagree with him & continues after he is elected, what does that say to you?
When an administration wants to silence opposing Thoughts, Opinions & Ideas on talk radio & Fox News what does that say to you?
I would rather have spam attacks, Viruses, rootkits attack my computer then Government silencing the internet, Opposing views &/or the Airwaves.
