The United States House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce has written Alphabet CEO Larry Page and Apple CEO Tim Cook demanding information on their companies’ practices with regard to third-party access, audio and location data collection. “This is a huge issue,” said John Simpson, privacy and technology project director at Consumer Watchdog. “People are becoming aware of how much data about them is being sucked up by their smartphones.” Congress should enact a privacy law similar to Europe’s GDPR, he suggested.
