One prominent computer hacker has been sentenced and a suspected hacker was indicted in the past week, both of them saying their cyber exploits were designed to point out security deficiencies. Infamous hacker Adrian Lamo, 23, who was known as “the helpful hacker” because he reported his exploits to his victims, was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan to six months of home confinement with his parents in California, two years of probation and a fine.
What would you think if coming home from a two weeks vacation and finding your house had been painted various colors, and all your utilities shut off, which caused a considerable financial necessity to correct. Would you laugh it off and consider those having done such to your home, as just kid games? I don't think so. Hackers are breaking the law, as well to very possibly present a threat to a society having the full right to self preservation. They need being properly punished, and considered serious society misfits. A slap on the wrists is not sending a stern enough warning to would be future hackers or a possible repeated offense.
