Gearing up to supply a growing demand, AMD has secured a microprocessor sourcing and manufacturing deal with Chartered Semiconductor, which will add capacity for production of AMD’s Athlon64 and Opteron chips. AMD said it will have its Dresden, Germany, facility cranking out its latest processors, but will also rely on Chartered to meet “expanding end-customer demands” for Athlon64 and Opteron. Chartered will be ready to begin producing chips in 2006.
