Business users have been slow to make the upgrade to Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2, according to AssetMetrix Research Labs, a vendor that helps companies analyze their computing infrastructures. But analysts said the survey may not tell the entire story. Of the 251 surveyed North American corporations, consisting of over 136,000 PCs, a mere 24 percent have implemented SP2. The news comes only days before the deadline for holding back on SP2 installation expires on April 12.
Some corporations may have a valid reason for not implimenting SP2. For example, some home grown apps may have connectivity problems with their servers once SP2 is deployed. And other such compatability issues which were addressed by the company and the company chose not to deply for cost reasons. Either way for Microsoft to deny support after a certain period is irresponsible and NOT very considerate the customer's needs (espacially since Windows XP is a relatively recent product - and ALL updates / Service packs should be supported!!) Side note: Ever try to contact Microsoft Tech support and ACTUALLY get a real person - like climbing Mt. Everest nude...Leaves you frost bit and feeling like there HAS to be a better way!!
