Dell yesterday began peddling its latest PC without an operating system. The computer is designed for consumers who plan to install open-source software instead of commercial tools and platforms. Dubbed the Dimension E510n PC, the computer comes with a blank hard drive and a copy of the FreeDOS operating system that customers can install. N-series computers like the Dimension E510n seem to target customers and companies that plan to experiment with Linux or other open-source operating systems.
PCs with preinstalled linux dont have any demand, because anyone who wants linux on a pc knows enough to know that it wont be pre-installed exactly the way they want it, so why bother with it comming that way. Its like windows PCs in the enterprise world, the first thing you do is dump what is on there, becuase it isn't installed right. The only advantage to a PC that comes preinstalled with linux is that the hardware must therefore be supported by linux in one way or another, so at least you have a good starting place.
