Google may be moving deeper into Skype’s Voice over Internet Protocol territory, with a little help from Nokia. The Finland-based personal communications device maker is adding Google Talk to its soon-to-be-released handheld Internet browsing product. The partnership could help Google extend its reach into mobile communications. Specifically, Nokia plans to pre-load Google Talk on an upgraded version of its Internet Tablet. Google Talk enables users to call or send instant messages to their friends for free.
Wi-fi access is not so universal as these companies imply. If you try the Vonage wi-fi phone, it doesn't work 99% of the time since most networks are locked. If you have to pay to use Starbucks for example at $3-4 a time, then this is not free and it's cheaper to use your cell phone minutes. Also, Skype may have announced free calls today within the US & Canada, but I and many others seem to not be able to make it work. No one has got this cracked yet!
