With a new generation of video game consoles, increasing online game play and distribution, cross-platform development and play, in-game advertising and more, there are earth-shaking changes going on in the video game industry. TechNewsWorld posed some questions about the new gaming landscape to Senior Vice President and General Manager of Electronic Arts Canada John Schappert, who oversees the largest interactive game studio in the world.
As a service provider providing our 2 County markets with a combinations of DSL, FTTH/Ethernet, Cable Modems and a new Metro Area Wireless Mesh Network in 2 cities, we are looking for the following in your on line MMPG space. Our subscribers want us to provide Local Access (not nationwide best effort internet)to a Game Server Platforms that will allow: Very Low Latency/Jitter and very high speed links (minimum) 2Mbs+ Symmetrical links for their games. Ideally what we (Service Provider) seek is a series of Game Server collocated with our Data Centers providing Fiber based local IP services allowing our users to log on with PC, Xbox, Nintendo and Sony Console and play initially with similar devices. Eventually we'd look to provide a Central Intelligent Server platform that would allow inter-play between Sony/XBox consoles and a PC based player using the same EA game. It is the local high speed access with low latency that is the premium service, and one cannot rely on that from these XBox and Sony National based servers.
