Microsoft has tried to keep plans for its so-called iPod killer tightly under wraps, but the software giant is indeed developing a digital media player to compete with Apple’s best-selling product, according to media reports. As the story goes, Microsoft is not merely developing one product aimed at dethroning the iPod. It is developing a complete line of Xbox-branded digital media products, including a device that plays media, a software media player and an online media service.
If I were Microsoft, I would keep this thing under wraps forever. They may be heading for their next Xbox cash-pit and had better concentrate on keeping themselves alive and credible as "the world's biggest software developer". As they risk being fined 3 million a day in the EU alone and their new operating system lags behind years. How they gonna built a decent user experience? Do you hit "start" on this thing to actually stop it like in Windows? Can you trust it going online, spending your money? How you gonna back it up if it crashes on the road? I think this is just a cover up, a shift in attention from a dieing dinosaur, who's founder is jumping ship. Remember; every Xbox sold so far has cost MS money. Microsoft is jumping on this wagon way too late and this may be their worst disaster, yet...
Wow... i can hardly wait... A media player that will require updates, os upgrade every other year, items released too early with problems, and security like swiss cheese... but if i want support i'll have to pay for it.... LOL OH i'm sorry i'm just remembering most of the other MS products. -Rufas
