Amazon has added a new component to its Amazon Web Services, the online retailer announced Thursday. SimpleDB, a new Web-based service for running queries on structured data in real time, joins Amazon’s other offerings, Simple Storage Service and Elastic Compute Cloud, as a computing solution for individual developers and small companies with big ideas and undersized budgets. SimpleDB, launched as an invitation-only limited beta, creates a trifecta for users of Amazon’s S3 and EC2 services that together enable users to store, process and query data sets in the cloud.
