My limited experience with online games has been nothing but nasty, brutish and short. A few online rounds of “Halo 2” at a friend’s house showed me just how vicious gamers can be when they smell fresh meat. I could barely run 20 feet before getting cut down. The insults and taunts flew thick and fast. These gamers, they have no mercy. That’s the sort of experience Cooper Lawrence, billed as a psychology specialist and radio talk show host, has been having over the past few days.
Good job pointing out the reality, but how many of the gamers that bashed Lawrence read TechNewsWorld? It isn't just gamers that should be stepping up and demanding changes to the "Fox" world view. They have done incredible harm to the level of intelligence in this nation for far longer than should have gone on. A perfect example is my grandfather. Attending dinner at his house a few years ago, we were gathered in his living room as he watched Fox news. They started a news story regarding Islamic extremists in Iraq, and he immediately went off on a tirade about how all Islam thinks we are infidels and should be wiped off the face of the planet. How all of Islam wants anyone who isn't Islamic dead and removed from history. I tried to dissuade him from his ignorance, but there was no changing it. He had been so deluded by the garbage that spews from most commercial media outlets that there was no chance of convincing him otherwise. It is sad how these conglomerates are able to manipulate our views of the world and how much credit people lend to the "information" they sell. On a final note, I am terribly sorry for your experience in online gaming. My fellow gamers and I try to create a clean environment that everyone is welcome in. We have been developing gaming communities for the intelligent adult for some time now because we can't stand to be around all of the racist, trash talking children that seem to play. It is too bad there aren't more communities like ours out there. Either way, good article and excellent point. We should be trashing Fox and all the other "news" outlets that don't seem to allow reality to penetrate their tirades.
