Not content with battling Google on the search front, Microsoft now plans to offer a free, lightweight Web version of its Office productivity suite. The package is similar to free word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications from Google. What is different in Microsoft’s approach is that it will allow users to host the documents on their own networks, something Google currently does not allow.
