Where’s the fault in making “share” the default setting on Facebook? After all, people who have read 10 years’ worth of scary headlines about email viruses, Internet scams featuring Nigerian princes and phishing websites seem eager to give up their likes, dislikes, kids’ names, embarrassing photos and vital statistics to an audience of a half-billion on the world’s largest social network. However, Facebook has heard its critics get louder regarding its apparently cavalier view of its members’ data.
It's free until you get hooked (lots of social connections set up via FB) then they start charging (your picture, then your birthday, then your interests, etc.) until eventually they will be reselling your personal emails and bank account balances. Each change is just small enough to not be enough to mobilize the masses, just cause grumbling. Once that dies down they know they can make their next little push.
As for myself, I have noticed that I want to use FB for less and less, taking information off my page with each change until they eventually push me out completely. Hopefully their trajectory will change before that happens, but I'm not holding my breath.
Gawd what boo-sheet ! FaceBook faces several enemies, not the least of which are dumbasses who ...
I want to look up my best friend from years ago, named say "Bill Smith." Without listing the city or age of the 10,000 Bill Smiths...
I give up ! Five of ten thousand Bill Smiths are dumbasses, the rest are simply unaware !
I do feel for FB. It is trapped in the middle. It must protect the too revealing, as well as broadly disseminate the seeking.
Where is the fault in making share the default ? There is none if your name is Jose Hernandez, or Lisa Simpson ! Croyst, how else can people find you ?!
Has Facebook Finally Gone Too Far?
