“Orders for the iPhone 4 Top 600,000, Apple Says,” according to a New York Times headline last Wednesday. Now that’s a headline guaranteed to grab the nearest Mac fanboy, technology enthusiast and even casual geek by the lapels and slap the caramel mochaccinos right out of them. And if things hadn’t fallen apart for Apple and AT&T during the iPhone pre-order process this week, several key groups would have been spinning that breaking news amongst themselves somewhat differently this week.
This is the first news I've read about AT&T's prostate problems.
AT&T doesn't get it; the Iphone 4 will continue to keep them going even though people largely hate their network. But at some point Apple is going to make the obvious move to make a CDMA version and AT&T will just fall flat once contracts end. They obviously know this and this is why they doubled their early termination fee for smartphones. Although the excuse that they needed to recoup their cost for subsidized phones sounded nice it's clearly not the real reason. AT&T has ignored the Android movement (Although the backflip is but then not compared to the others) Apple is moving to a CDMA version so why does AT&T feel the need to be loyal and avoid the Android phones? But then still at the end of the day once Apple releases a CDMA version of the Iphone even that will be gone and for most people there will be no reason to go to AT&T. Because they just don't get it; the shakeup that would have to take place with AT&T to get them moving in the right direction will never happen. AT&T's wireless days are numbered, you can figure it out by taking the last contract expiration date and that will be that.
AT&T's Winter, Spring and Summer of Discontent
