Like almost everyone — including government and law enforcement officials on multiple continents — I’m struggling to answer this question: Exactly who is Julian Assange? is Assange merely a journalist with an altruistic desire to uncover the truth about the actions of governments and large corporations, as he would have you believe? Is he guilty of espionage and other acts that warrant labeling him an enemy of the state, as the U.S. Department of Justice contends? Or is he a common criminal, as police in Sweden allege?
The part about "hacking" or using software/hardware in ways they were not intended: I thought Anonymous didn't do that. They didn't create a standard botnet with unknown computers who downloaded trojans, instead they had volunteers of Anonymous download the DDoS client onto their own computers and run it.
Seriously, this guy, what ever his cause, is being hounded like a dog, but the instigators of everything from what we already knew about Iraq, etc. are free, never mind that the most recent bullshit they can be linked to is funding a child slavery ring ***on US government money***. I want to see someone charged here, but I am not at all sure its the guy releasing the documents. And, I am not at all surprised that the people that allowed/promoted/defend/ordered this crap want it stop, so they can bury anything worse coming down the pipe.
