Apple recently disabled its Apple News app for users in China, according to multiple reports triggered by software developer Larry Salibra’s alerts last week. Although Apple is mum on the subject, users based in China have begun complaining on the Internet about the News app being unavailable there. “Last week during a short holiday in Mainland China, I was surprised to find that the News app refused to work from my hotel in Dongguan even though I was using uncensored roaming internet,” Salibra, founder of Pay4Bugs, wrote in a blog post.
Not at all surprised. But in the US I think the news app is just as bad. Very much a progressive and tabloid themed app. I see top three news (CNN, NYT, VOX) recommended are simply the cream of liberal skewed news and then you search for the rest like BBC, Fox, ABC, CBS,NPR. Not exactly subtle about steering people into a flavor of news. CNN these days is not exactly on the unbiased level of news reporting and if you argue Fox is not either, then I would say yes Fox is a leaner to right wing news but CNN is so far left it falls off any reasonable level of even trying to be news presenters. But rather filtered news provider. I still am not even sure who needs a news app when plenty of station apps provide ample reporting of news from any angle you choose. My only real gripe is that its another app that must be dragged to my apps I don't use screen because I cannot uninstall them. Thanks Apple for taking up room on my phone with another app I never wanted.
not surprised in the least. People don't read the fine print when downloading and installing the apps and just selecting "INSTALL" before reading the fine print.
If it's an apple device, they are in charge of all of the content...including pictures, apps, and emails. Same goes for apps....websites, and mail...it's not yours. So at any point in time, that content can be removed.
Working at a large company, there are disclaimers for new hires...basically shows that "here is a computer...do what you want, but anything saved locally (documents, favorates, internet sites searched) isn't yours.
For crying out loud, even this post is monitored and can be removed at any time.
Internet isn't really free when you step back and look at it from a distance.
