I’m starting to get the idea that for the next eight or so years, a lot of what many of us are going to write will have something to do with what Donald Trump tweeted. Granted, since that has been the case for much of the last year, we have gotten comfortable with it. However, when Trump said he would kill the deal for an updated Air Force One — which would cost billions and still be based on the now-obsolete 747 — it hit me that we’ve completely lost track of what Air Force One should be.
I can pick this guy apart all day..."We should start with military specification that is designed to deploy in 2025 and expected to have a service life of something closer to a decade." You think a plane with the capabilities you suggest, would seriously be cheaper and a bigger investment than a new 747-based Air Force One if it is only around for a decade? As far as an aircraft lifespan is concerned, a decade is nothing. The C-130 and KC-135 have been in service since the 1950's and are still performing their mission beautifully. Once again, you know nothing about aviation, and aircraft technology in general. Sad.
AIR FORCE ONE IS STRICTLY A PLATFORM FOR PROTECTING THE PRESIDENT WHEN TRAVELING TO ANY COUNTRY OUTSIDE OUR BORDERS OR FOR TRAVEL INSIDE OUR BORDERS. YOU WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A TOP SECRET/DEPARTMENTAL CLEARANCES TO KNOW WHAT ACTUALLY GOES ON WITH THE INTERNAL WORKINGS OF THIS PLATFORM. IT TRAVELS WITH AN ENTOURAGE OF NUMEROUS OTHER AIRCRAFT SO MY BELIEF IS THAT THESE AIRCRAFT SHOULD BE KEPT UP-TO-DATE TECHNOLOGICALLY TO PROTECT THE PRESIDENTS AIRCRAFT IN ALL SITUATIONS. TRUMP HAS THE RIGHT IDEA BUT JUST NEEDS TO GET HIS PRIORITIES ADJUSTED.
By the way even if they were using technology from the beginning of the 747's existence (1960's), and flying with it until 2025 (as he states in the article) then that technology would be 60 years old, not 90. The author cant even do math. The 747 wasnt built in 1935...
Here boys and girls is a great example of someone running their mouth about technology they know absolutely ZERO about. He calls the 747 "slow moving". Last I checked the 747 cruises at .78 mach. That's not slow by any means. He also says the new Air Force One platform will be in service until 2025, which makes the technology "90 years old" (the 747 came out in the 1960's). Does he really think Boeing is going to build a brand new Air Force One and just slap old avionics and old interiors and old counter measures in it? The author also says that the president's plane should have vertical take off capabilities...so you want him to fly in a 600 Mph helicopter or blimp? I dont think those exist lol. Come on Tech News World...hire journalists who actually do a bit of research before publishing a stupid article like this one. I though Facebook was cracking down on fake news like this...."It should be a showcase for military technology that speaks to the need to put forces quickly anywhere in the world. For instance, if there were another Benghazi, a plane like that could get a defensive force to an embassy in minutes rather than days." So you want to build a plane that flies 9000 miles in mere minutes? Good luck with that. I don't think this idiot knows anything about aircraft. Take it from an ex Air Force aircraft mechanic, this article is misinformed, pointless, and far fetched. Get a grip.
I know the author is "imagining" or fantasizing, but believe it or NOT there are some people who will read the article and believe the author.
1st. There are several 747 jets the government uses. The designation of "Air Force One" is only on the plane the President is currently flying on.
2nd. The government has been updating the technology of the vehicles, and air vehicles that are used by the President of the USA.
3rd. To imply that the USA should publicize the technology used in its equipment is not logical (being polite).
4th One of the reasons that airplanes are replaced is in part due to their internal structure stresses. There comes a point when it is more expensive to repair or replace parts than getting new equipment.
As to DT tweeting. He knows how to get free publicity just as any ole carney does. Unfortunately, just as some people believed the carnival sideshows acts (and wrestling) were REAL, so to some believe Trump is sane.
What Trump Should Do With Air Force One
