What would it take to cause Apple to fail? While Steve Jobs was alive, the prevalent belief was that it would take his removal from the firm. That has happened, but Apple’s valuation and reserves are higher. Although the foundational element is gone, no one really went after Apple hard until last week, when Google launched a comprehensive strategy that clearly targeted the company. It attacks Apple’s products directly and flanks it as well. While this is an impressive attack on Apple, it doesn’t yet have all the elements it needs to succeed.
Almost every time a competing phone is released it is hailed as the "iPhone Killer". Yet, in more than 10 years since the first iPhone was released, we still haven't come across that illusive unicorn.
All that anyone needs to do is to web-search "iPhone Killer". There have been, and continue to be, too many so-called "iPhone Killers" to list.
Even last year's Pixel 1 phones were pronounced by some of the Nostradamuses out there as the "iPhone Killer", and we know that during the past year the Pixel phones have not been big sellers (certainly no where near the more than 200 Million iPhones sold last year).
So, it is no big surprise that the Pixel 2 is AGAIN being prophesied to be the "iPhone Killer" (Really and truly this year... Forget what we said last year).
The "iPhone Killer" prognosticators have been consistently wrong over the past 10 years, and yet they feel no shame or embarrassment in continuing with these ill-fated proclamations.
