Deepin 15.8, released last month, is loaded with more efficient layout tweaks that give the distribution greater functionality and maturity. Deepin, based in China, shed its Ubuntu base when with the 2015 release of version 15, which favored Debian Linux. That brought numerous subtle changes in the code base and software roots. Ubuntu Linux itself is based on Debian. The chief distinguishing factor that accounts for Deepin's growing popularity is its homegrown Deepin Desktop Environment.

I've been using Deepin 15.x as one of my daily drivers for a while now. Besides being pretty snazzy, Deepin is a durable, stable, and highly capable desktop OS. It's remarkably flexible and is well suited for both work and play.

Deepin 15.x like Linux Mint is designed with the user in mind and it shows. It is easy to use without sacrificing anything. Everything works out of the box.

All in all Deepin 15x gets it right on many levels. The latest version 15.8 really knocks it out of the park.

There are some truly fantastic distributions being produced. I use four or five different distro's as daily drivers. I am fortunate to own several nice laptops and the quality of some distributions make it very hard to try and choose just one, or two.

The year of the Linux desktop never officially arrived but for those of us that use Linux it has been going on for a couple of years.

The whole experience with Deepin is slick, modern and professional apart from the stated odd language gripes. That said the one small things that puts off a lot of people is a lack of theme options for the file manager.

You mau activate a Deepin live session by starting the installer then ctl-alt-F1-4 once the installer starts properly.
Type startx and you're a go for live Deepin session.
