Sprint Nextel yesterday said Hurricane Katrina would cost the company US$150 million to $200 million. The estimate includes the cost of restoring its network, as well as billing relief to customers in the affected regions, Sprint said. Company spokesman John Taylor said Sprint doesn't have a specific figure for how much it will recoup through insurance. The financial impact is expected to be spread over the rest of the year, the company said.

The assertion by Sprint that 90% of its Mississippi customers are back in service is Bull. If you try dialing any of the customer service numbers, you get the circuit busy tones. Of course, you have to dial from a non-Sprint served phone. Their email responses do not reference a estimated time to repair, either.
