Terra Soft Solutions today announced that Yellow Dog Linux, it's PowerPC-based Linux implementation, now supports the Mac mini and iMac G5. The new version features more than 70 updates. Yellow Dog is a Red Hat-based Linux distribution designed to work with the PowerPC architecture, which is used in the Macintosh. Analysts said the distribution targets a niche market full of opportunity. "There are white box server vendors and others who could deploy Yellow Dog," Stacey Quandt, senior business analyst and open-source practice leader for the Robert Frances Group, said.

I am yet to understand why people are so hyped over Linux...
To me, Linux is much like Windows in that it works on just about any standard PC hardware but it is not always a consistant experience.
On the other hand I like to compare the various BSDs to the Mac, in that it is always consistant across whatever hardware (yes, MacOS only runs on Apple hardware I know) I throw it on.
BSD, and in particular netBSD is something that I have been using for years now. I started out making a little router on a Mac LC II running netBSD and hjave since put it on Quadra's and every other piuece of old hardware I have laying around.
I am running YellowDog on a PowerComputing PowerWave 604/150 right now. Install went easy enough, but X has never worked...::sigh::
