Now that all our pockets contain phones and all those phones contain cameras, a societal panopticon has been formed, and nothing we do in public is safe from the never-blinking eye of YouTube and the like. If that sounds a little shrill, keep in mind it's not all bad, as long as you don't take yourself too seriously and aren't in the habit of committing felonies in full view of other people. In fact, when everyone's armed with a camera, life's more enjoyable and spontaneous moments need not be lost to memory either.

Answers from a Precorder Dev

Hi! Precorder developer here. Just wanted to respond to a few of the issues you noticed with the library.

Precorder doesn't have it's own library. By default, we save all of your videos in the built-in Photo library. This has a few drawbacks, but makes it easier to sync videos to your computer or access them from other apps should you want to do that. The first drawback is Apple requires any application that accesses the photo library to request location services. This is to read the location data that may or may not exist on your photos videos. It must be on just to read the library. Precorder *DOES NOT NEED OR RECORD LOCATION DATA*. Apple forces us to ask for it. The same thing goes for deleting. Apple won't let you do that from a 3rd party app. The current solution is really a stopgap because the lack of a delete button confused enough people that we decided it was worth it to put instructions right into the app so that people didn't need to email us or look for documentation.

These two things are kinda lame, but it means that you don't need to tell Precorder to save your videos to a place that allows you to access them in other apps or on your computer (which is what 8mm does instead). We might decide to change this in the future. We know it tends to hurt the experience a bit, but we're just not sure that the alternative is really better. As with all things software, everything is a trade-off.

Thanks for the detailed review, and I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion about the choices we made. Let us know if you've got other questions!
