A federal appeals court on Monday reversed a judge's decision that granted the copyright of the Unix computer operating system to Novell. A three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a judge erred in August 2007 by granting the copyright to Novell. The panel ordered a trial to determine ownership. Novell, a software and computer infrastructure company, has been locked in a years-long legal battle with The SCO Group of Lindon, Utah, over ownership to the copyright. SCO said the ruling paves the way for resumption of the court case.

"Linux at the end of the day is a knock-off of our Unix."

Try showing the actual code in Linux that Darl McBride claims is a knock off, not that Linux is a POSIX (ISO/IEC 9945) operating system.

I'd have a bit of sympathy if SCO actually created Unix instead of purchasing it. This also shows why the application of copyright laws, designed to protect individuals' rights, to corporations is wrong. Copyright was designed so that material eventually ended up in the public domain 50 years after the creator died. In its attempts to protect Disney and Mickey Mouse the US has abused the regulations. Copyright held by a corporation/company should be reduced to something like 10 years allowing everyone to develop on the ideas of others not create monopolies for large businesses.
