Apple is in discussions to become a mobile virtual network operator in both Europe and the United States, where it's already running a trial of its service, according to a media report. The MVNO idea may not advance beyond the test phase -- and if it does, it likely won't happen for some time -- at least five years. Apple reportedly has been huddling with telecommunication companies for years on the MVNO play, and its interest is an "open secret" in the industry. However, Apple on Tuesday issued a denial that it has held MVNO discussions.

MVNOs have a lot of challenges in front of them. They need to do something that differentiates them from their rivals. With the rapid growth of MVNOs in the Europe, the American market is also going to be a hub for the MVNO. MVNOs are perceived as price differenciators so it would be unlikely for a brand like Apple to launch a MVNO arm. However, with the kind of reputation Apple enjoys, it can easily make a mark on global markets with its innovative ideas & its unique approach towards new business models. Effective MVNO Solutions play a key role in segregating a MVNO from just being a price negotiator.
