Social media outsourcing will be the next big business opportunity for India after business process outsourcing and knowledge process outsourcing, contends Gaurav Mishra, Yahoo fellow in residence at Georgetown University's Institute for the Study of Diplomacy. "Some functions are best handled by a local U.S., agency while some others like social media monitoring and B2C community management are best outsourced to a low-cost country like India," Mishra told the E-Commerce Times.

Out Sourcing

I might add that for companies that are still not sure about social media, how to effectively implement new strategies, or its perceived value to meeting company objectives that out sourcing can be a way to save money, resources, and gain insight into what works and what doesn't.

They must also be smart about who they choose and why. You must choose a company that has expertise, is already ahead of the curve in terms of knowing how to leverage trends, and one who knows how to protect your brands integrity.

Social media marketing and viral video campaigns are 2 of the top ad trends heading into '09. Breakout Solutions is one of the only companies out there that has a fully automated viral video platform that allows brands to "reel" their audience on an opt-in level back into their marketing funnel for a true direct response and interactive promotion. Our platform also has built-in quality control mechanisms that allow brands to safely participate in social media without taking huge risks.

On a final note, companies should not fall for the smoke and mirrors of so called "experts" out there who only preach social networking. Being inside of facebook will do absolutely nothing for your brand if what you are doing is not tied back to your business objectives. Clearly defined goals and top notch activation idea are a must when dealing with social media. Out sourcing can be great if done right.

Outsourcing community mgt. vs. community technology

Ned - Thanks for the mention. One thing I wanted to point out is that it's important to clearly note the difference between outsourcing the management of the community and the technology on which the community is built. Once the community is up and running it really depends on the purpose of the community as to how and by whom it should be managed, and that decision is usually separate from the technology selection and community construction process.

In terms of our offering being hosted, choosing a hosted or on-premise offering is a decision that every company will make when they decide to launch a community, but we have found that our long list of customers have preferred and been drawn to our hosted offering as on-demand software becomes more and more popular.
