Microsoft has taken the touchscreen PC concept in a new direction, amping it up with a 30-inch screen, giving it five eyes and turning it horizontal to create a coffee table that can sense multiple touches at the same time. Based on Windows Vista and called “Microsoft Surface,” the new computer can also sense — through the use of five cameras mounted below the “surface” screen — everyday objects that have been tagged with a special sort of barcode label. “With Surface, we are creating more intuitive ways for people to interact with technology,” Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said.
This is actually very nice. I think functionality, aesthetic, and innovation should go hand in hand in the computing world. And we are heading there. Products like Wiimote, Canon smart cameras, ambient light, etc. You can see these coming from small companies too. For example http://www.a-r-e.nl provides devices for translation of text to color, and real time ambience. I definitely think the best is yet to come !!
