Bing Makes Triple-Column Play With New Interface Design

Microsoft unveiled an update to Bing on Thursday that strongly leverages social networks, including a redesigned interface to provide a three-column look. Responses to queries keyed into Bing will list experts and the user's friends, who can comment on the topic in the right panel. A new feature called "Snapshot" will display useful information about a specific place or topic in the middle column.

The Fair Trade Commission, a Korean antitrust agency, has launched an investigation into the Korean units of HP, Oracle and IBM. The commission's investigation stems from alleged unfair business practices. From The Korea Times: "Investigators of the Fair Trade Commission raided HP's Seoul office Friday, officials said. They took computer records and documents and questioned employees over their suspicions."

Google's investments in mobile advertising and dark clouds over Europe contributed to weak quarterly sales and earnings. Share prices fell 10 percent on the news that Google's fourth quarter sales of $8.13 billion fell short of analyst estimates of $8.41 billion. Profit before certain costs was $9.50 per share, which was a dollar shy of the $10.50 estimate on the street.
