It Was a Mad, Mad Gaming World at This Year's E3


Microsoft and Sony both staked their claims this year -- to widely diverging reaction -- but in general, E3 was all about the games. One PC-only game, in fact, stood out as a potential for the very best at E3: Total War: Rome II, which will let players build an empire in a strategy game that now includes combined land and naval battles, enhanced diplomacy and more playable powers.

New Drive Aims to Stamp Out Smartphone Crime


Smartphone crime does pay -- so much so that criminals have become increasingly bold and brutal in going after the gadgets. That's about to change, if a broadbased coalition of public officials, industry representatives and consumer advocates has its way. Among proposed measures is a kill switch that could be triggered remotely in the event of a theft, rendering the stolen smartphone useless.
