Yes ...as a young man from canada I feel a great sorrow for your country's loss......do you think these horrible actions taken against the u.s will makes people realize that there are nations and individuals all over the world who think that the United States are too politically aggressive. Does the government of the U.S see this as a message or just simply as an attack. Justice will be served...no doubt..but does congress hear all the reasons behind the attack or do they just hear the explosion?

Hi Reece,

This was an attack against the U.S. policy of opposing bigotry, hatred, and oppresion. Terrorist groups and the countries that support them of course do not like the U.S. policies. Since when has doing right been subject to a popularity contest? Was the U.S. right to support it's allies and defend itself after Pearl Harbor?

This is a fight between Western Judeo-Christian values and Islamic extremist values. So, you think U.S. policy is what caused this? What about Iraq invading Kuwait? What U.S. policy caused that? Maybe you need to wake up and see that the U.S. has many enemies because it fights for the little guy, fights for democracy, and let's enemies know that they will be held accountable. God forbid we follow Canada's example of hiding our heads in the global sand.

I am flattered to see that someone has tried to post under my name.

There are a number of reasons why this action has taken place. And I do believe that US foreign policy has played a role.

However, as my alter-ego said this is not a popularity contest.

There are radical factions that have taken Islam and committed a terrible injustice in its name. I know many Muslims who are terribly upset by these actions.

In any case we have to respond to this. But it must be thought out and wise. The Soviets and the British learned the hard way that the Afghans are not a people to be conquered, but than again I do not believe that they are all responsible.

Payback is coming, but it won't be like the movies.

First of all, let me condemn terrorism, in all its forms, in all countries (even though this has been the biggest act of terrorism of all, there are countries that have had this same problem for years!!!).
Having said that:
Are there any proofs that point Bin Laden's way?
Do you realise that Afghanistan and Iraq have American weaponry, sold to them by the US Govermment?
Are you aware that Bin Laden was trained by the CIA?
Why did the US invade Iraq, and is now devastating its population?
And why did it not intervene in Rwanda (more than 1.000.000 dead), Yugoslavia, etc.?
If the US Govermment, like it seems, sees itself as the police of the world, why does it choose to invade Iraq, and not the above mentioned? Gas?
Is this not what the UN is for, not the States?

Once more, I condemn the terrorist acts of 11th September, and all its perpetrators.

Continued, part II:
Invading Iraq? Heck, we could (and SHOULD) have wiped out Saddam's regime but backed off. We saved thousands of innocent Kuwaitis, didn't we?

On to the current suffering in Iraq. How dare you blame the U.S.! Hussein has it in his power to end the suffering immediately by abiding by United Nations directives. He deprives his own people of food and medicine on purpose! All his luxury palaces and edifices of himself. He kicked out UN inspectors and has faced harsh consequences. Yes, it is of course sad and horrific the way regular Iraqis suffer, but you need a few courses in logic and less in rhetoric to grasp what is going on there...

Anyway, Miguel, thank God you are not in any position of power, and that despite your message board postings, you have no voice or say in world policy!

Sincerely,

The Jugs of Ornelas.

Miguel-

You are one sorry and ignorant dude...

Are you suggesting that Bin Laden may not have been behind the WTC attacks? Maybe you think OJ was framed by the police too?

Your comments on the U.S. arming Bin Laden and Iraq are true, but so what? When we look back, it was the right choice to back them based on them fighting a bigger threat at that time. So, for all the other hundreds of groups/governments we have supported where things have turned out well, do you give the U.S. credit? What about South/North Korea, where our presence has served as a strong deterrent from the North invading the South for almost 50 years.

For the genocide in Rwanda, it appears that the U.N., the U.S., Europe, and others dropped the ball and with hindsight, should have done more.

Yugoslavia? The ethnic cleansing claims of tens of thousands have been proved to be greatly exaggerated. Things are better now, though it took a while and U.S./European intervention.
