Forbes released its annual list of the largest corporations in the U.S. this week, and Apple had the biggest increase. It jumped from the 35th spot in 2011 to finish 17th on this year's list, which ranks companies on the basis of revenue. Apple still hasn't climbed into the ranks of Exxon Mobil, Wal-Mart or General Electric when it comes to cash flow, but in the tech world, only HP was ahead of Apple on the list. Apple's recent sales records and steady climb higher on the list of America's biggest money-makers is thanks in part to its branded retail stores.
No, because Wally-world has a terrible display of Mac stuff, and it's totally neglected. They still don't have the new iPad in the local Walmart.
What is worse is the way they play on unsuspecting shoppers. The iPhone, for example, is about $3 cheaper than the price you will get in the Apple store. BUT, the accessories are sometimes marked up--the typical (overpriced) Apple headphones are $40 at Wally-world, and only $30 in Apple retail. Hillarious, but you can see how they make their money.
If Walmart were serious about this, they would offer discounts, but perhaps they are contractually obligated to keep the price up. I just don't see it. Even small towns have at least a Best Buy (not much better than wal mart, but at least the checkout will not take 1/2 hour.
