Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer said at a press briefing in London yesterday that the future of digital technology in the home rests with Microsoft and not Apple. He also categorized the majority of music stored on Apple's portable music players as "stolen." Ballmer described the growing home market for technology as a "tipping point," which could lead to a dramatic increase in sales for converged devices that integrate video, audio and computer technology.

Balmer knows a lot about "Stolen". MS stole the Mac interface and every other good idea Apple has come up with. He recently said, "We don't see anything in iTunes that we can't do" - AKA STEAL, COPY.
Creativity is something that he knows NOTHING about. Cool is something that he and MS are not.
The are smart though ... if you consider letting everyone else blaze the trails and then paying to copy (STEAL) the ideas to make an average product smart.

I have just bought an iPOD after visiting a couple of Apple stores in the USA (San Francisco & Chicago). Back home in Ireland I have (almost) finished copying my entire CD collection to the gadget, very quickly and with not a single hiccup, and I am extremely pleased with the process and especially the end result. As for illegal music, I'll not have time to bother with it, it'll take too long to listen to the music that I've already paid for (at the inflated prices we have to pay in Europe for the same music as iTUNES and ALL other music that can be purchased in the US).
A special mention for Microsoft... if you had the wit to emulate the Apple Store idea you might sell even more stuff, but then again, when people can see your wares (but you don't actually make platforms to run your stuff, or do you?) in the round against the "opposition" maybe they, like me, might start to be seduced by the Apple! (and I am a PC and Microsoft User) for the last 15 years - now I'm not so sure about the next computer I'll buy... if I wasn't so pleased with my Dell PC... but I'll be having a very serious look at the Apple Macs...
