I so much agree with this viewpoint writer. It sometimes seems that everything written about the Internet has to be in superlatives.
If the corner grocery store closed down, would we try to see it in philosophical terms? No, but since it was an Internet delivery system, people get all choked up. So what, a lot of good ideas don't turn into solid businesses. If Webvan was such a great company, it would have done a better job at management of its resources and planning for profits. Instead, it was a flaky company that we should all just stop talking about.
