Around 1,000 gambling Web sites face being banned from advertising in the UK following a government crackdown. Regulations to be laid before Parliament Wednesday use new powers to ban gambling advertisements from companies operating outside the European Economic Area. The restrictions will come into place from Sept. 1 onwards when the 2005 Gambling Act comes into effect. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport said jurisdictions that wanted to be exempt from the ban had to pass a stringent assessment of their regulatory standards.
I have read that, starting september 1st, gambling sites are required to have either the .co.uk or the .eu extension. Is this true?
It would make it easier for gamblers to recognize legal operations.
