For decades, Apple Computer has counted on the loyalty of its customers to fuel the company's success, but in one of its most important markets there may be signs that that loyalty is flagging. According to a survey released Wednesday by ABI Research, 58 percent of iPod owners who plan to buy a new digital music player in the next 12 months said they were "somewhat likely" or "extremely likely" to buy a Zune, Microsoft's player that is expected to be released later this month.

"iPod owners may not be as loyal as Mac owners. According to a survey released Wednesday by ABI Research, 58 percent of iPod owners who plan to buy a new digital music player in the next 12 months said they were "somewhat likely" or "extremely likely" to buy a Zune."
BUT, because they don't use Macs, they dn't have an estimate on how crappy the Zune will be in comparison to the iPod.
most people who ue an iPod don't know anything about compters, and, after the get the Zune they will problably realize how crappy (literaly, because of the colour) it is compared to the iPod, and, MABEY, it will make them think twice about switching to Mac, because they wonder, "if the iPod is so much better than the Zune, how is the Mac?"

if you read the methodology on the website (http://www.abiresearch.com/abiprdisplay.jsp?pressid=754)
it states....
"Methodology: data contained within this report is derived from a Web-based survey among a nationally-balanced and demographically-representative sample of 1,725 online consumers (age 18 and older). The consumer survey was conducted in October 2006. Respondents were provided a photo and description of the Microsoft Zune device before being asked about their likelihood to choose it over a competitive MP3 player.."
it seems to me that anybody that sees an picture of the zune and hears about what it can "theoretically" do, it sounds cool....key word, theoretically. Also, they treated a "yes" answer as "somewhat likely" or "extremely likely" to buy a zune....somewhat likely sounds like they are rather unsure...but regardless, the features sound cool and the picture looks cool....other than that the people tested probably would not buy it in reality
