Google has launched a beta version of a financial news and information site, creating a destination for investors and others that will target Web portal rival Yahoo, whose own finance site is one of the most heavily used on the Internet. Google Finance is an improvement over existing options, the company said, because it lets users find financial data on a company or mutual fund without requiring them to enter the trading ticker symbol.

While I think the general idea is great, I was disappointed with the list of 31 companies. Only three had any detail, and their charts were not great. The idea of having companies from all over the world is good.
