DEA Sued for Unconstitutional Phone Surveillance


The blanket surveillance of phone calls carried out by the DEA and other federal authorities violated both the First and Fourth Amendments, according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which filed a lawsuit to stop the activity. "I suspect the government will argue it did not specifically target Americans and so its actions do not require constitutional scrutiny," said attorney Yasha Heidari.

Commerce Department Embarks on Data Revolution


"I am greatly encouraged by [the Commerce Department's] recognition of data as a strategic goal, and their establishment of this advisory committee to help ensure that they get experienced advice from commercial users and other experts in data dissemination and usability," said Karin Remington, CTO at Arjuna Solutions and a member of the newly formed Commerce Data Advisory Council.
