Netflix Drives Into a Ditch


Subscribers have chilled toward Netflix, and Wall Street is freaking out. The company hasn't rebounded much from the 25 percent hit its stock took early Thursday. There could be several reasons for the lackluster subscriber growth, but its fee hike for new customers is one of the more popular guesses. Another possibility is that Netflix needs more high-quality original content to attract newbies.

AT&T Will Fork Over $80M for Mobile Cramming


AT&T has agreed to pay $80 million in refunds for "mobile cramming" -- that is, billing customers for subscriptions they had not authorized. AT&T kept at least 35 percent of those fees. Although customer complaints over unauthorized fees spiked in 2011, AT&T's initial response was to reduce the amount it would refund from three months to just two, no matter how long it had been billing for them.
