AT&T Puts a Price on Privacy


AT&T is making an offer many of its high-speed Internet customers can't refuse: It will knock $29 off its monthly fee in exchange for tracking permission. AT&T believes customers appreciate the more relevant ads tracking data allows marketers to deliver, and it promises not to share anything really sensitive. Customers who pay the extra fee will see just as many ads, but they won't be targeted.

Google Pads Its Wallet


Google has overcome a big obstacle to the success of its mobile payment system. The company has struck a deal with three major U.S. carriers to preinstall Google Wallet on Android smartphones they offer for sale. Google also purchased Softcard, the mobile payments system the three carriers -- Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile -- had undertaken as a joint venture.
