There are an estimated 44 million Baby Boomers roaming the Net, and legions of marketers looking for ways to reach them. That's because, as a target market, Boomers have what it takes to make hucksters salivate: money. "It's a generation with wealth -- 2 trillion in disposable income -- and they have an inredible appetitie to keep connecting, to keep learning and to keep graduating to new things," Linda Natansohn, senior vice president for strategic development for Eons in Boston, Mass., told TechNewsWorld.

It is so true about the Teenagers having all the social sites and internet basically caters to them. There is a new social networking site that is geared toward the Baby Boomers. Basically a MySpace for Grownups.
It is an invitation only website.
www.GoogolMeHere.com . It is based on the 6 degrees of Separation theory. I want to see how far my 6 degrees of separation can reach. It is really pretty interesting.
I have been looking for a friend for 21 years and still can not find her. I was on MySpace but it was impossible to find my own daughter there.
Anyway, check it out. You never know who you will end up reconnecting with. Just put in this email address (GoogolBug@aol.com) in the Invitation section on the homepage and you can get in. Once you register, you can invite as many people as you want to. Make sure you read the “About Us” section to understand the website concept. By the way, the Basic site is FREE!

I agree that marketers are salivating about all of us baby boomers, hoping to cash in on the next phase of our lives - retirement. Where I think Eons and a few other sites missed the boat (as evidenced by recent layoffs there) is that there has to be some focus to the connection. Being a baby boomer is great, but who wants to connect only on that basis -it's too broad. Hence new sites like www.grandparents.com are trying to find additional common ground. My site, for example, www.topretirements.com, focuses on helping these baby boomers find the best place to retire to. It will be interesting to look at this again in a few years and see how it all shakes out.

The layoff of 1/3 of Eons staff this week says that they may be wrong.
