Diverging from its usual dedication to Intel-based machines, Microsoft has made public a beta version of Windows XP for use on 64-bit computers running the AMD Athlon 64 and Opteron processors. Microsoft said its Windows XP 64-Bit Edition is designed for technical workstation users who require large amounts of memory and floating point performance in areas such as mechanical design, digital content creation and high-performance computing.

Hello all,
I am in some disagreement over the resulting analisys of the story. I have built a number of AMD64/ASUS systems to solve client client application perfomance issues, and believe that if any user, who use products like AccPac accoutning, MAS90 accoutning, would run headlong to have machine like this.
In the fastest Intel box I could build, I could get no more that 11-13 screens open at anyone time an then the machine would start to crawl, with the AMD64/ASUS combo, I am able to get 50-60 screens a ta time, and still open 30 word documents, 55 explorer windows, 48 Excel docs all in the space of 60 seconds....
I am building 40-50 of these systems a week for my cleints, once they see the performace, there is no stopping them...
And I have tested these same apps in the 64bit xp beta version and they run even faster there...
My advice, for what it's worth, if a cleint ahs performance issues, get ASAP, the issues will diappear...
