The press reports that Microsoft is planning and developing a revolutionary concept in e-business. The idea: scrap all your software. All the database, spreadsheet, word processor, e-business, etc. software you'll need will reside on web servers. Simply access the server, and do your work.
Maybe the concept isn't so revolutionary after all. It reminds me of a mainframe with dumb terminals.
So, what do you think? Good idea? Bad idea?
There too many details involved in the project. To put it simple: my question is… well, the usual – efficiency (speed, bugs, etc) for home PC users, but how about data security? That will a major difficulty in implementation and most importantly, in actually getting the enterprises to put all their precious “everything” on a remote server. What do you think?
